Meet our new Executive Director!

Alekzandria PeughAlthough born in Oklahoma City, Alekzandria Peugh grew up all over northeast Ohio and considers herself an Ohioan. She was taught to play the clarinet at the age of 8 by her great-grandfather as a part of a family tradition; however, Alekzandria is one of just a few family members who continues to play the clarinet to this day.

The clarinet became her major instrument first at Kent State University’s Stark Campus and then Cleveland State University, where she graduated with her Bachelor of Music in Music Education (cum laude) in December 2013. During her time as an undergraduate student, Alekzandria was an active member of the Ohio Collegiate Music Education Association, serving at least one year in each electable office through the schools’ respective chapters. In addition to this demonstrable leadership, she pioneered a new format for senior recitals for music education students that includes sections to showcase teaching skills in addition to performing skills that is now utilized by the Cleveland State University Department of Music.

Despite a deep love for teaching elementary music, Alekzandria chose to attend graduate school when she was unable to find a teaching position after graduation. She relocated to Dayton, Ohio, and through a part-time position with the Springfield Symphony Orchestra (SSO), she became introduced to the field of arts administration. Though initially only a part-time employee, she demonstrated her efficiency and passion for the organization and was promoted to Director of Operations & Education shortly after her first year with the symphony when her predecessor moved on to another job.

In her time as the Director of Operations & Education with the SSO, all data has been moved from a physical server to a cloud-based one to facilitate off-site access and better security. The symphony’s paper footprint has been significantly reduced, and efficiency across the board has been Alekzandria’s priority. She also brought the Link Up program, a highly participatory curriculum for 3-5th graders, to the Springfield community; the first year, 50% of the symphony’s auditorium was filled with students for the culminating concert. In the second year, it has sold out at slightly over 1,200 students. She has also been actively seeking out ways to encourage the youth orchestras students to take ownership of the program, in part by encouraging them to speak and manage the stage at their two yearly concerts.

When not working with the Symphony or its youth programs, Alekzandria fills her time with two area marching band programs; the Tecumseh Marching Band in New Carlisle, where she has served as the Assistant Marching Band Director, and the Miamisburg Marching Band in Miamisburg, where she was a woodwind tech and worked largely with the saxophones and bass clarinets.

In what very little spare time remains, she enjoys writing, baking, and experimenting with website design and coding. Alekzandria currently lives in Springfield, Ohio with her three cats and boyfriend, Dan, though they will all be relocating to the Idaho Falls area shortly after Christmas.
