Idaho Falls Symphony Cancels Remainder of 70th Anniversary Season due to COVID-19

March 17, 2020 - Dear members of the Idaho Falls Symphony community:

The news has been changing rapidly, and in accordance with the recent recommendation by the CDC that all events with more than 50 participants be canceled in order to slow the spread of COVID-19, the Idaho Falls Symphony and the Idaho Falls Symphony Youth Orchestras will be canceling all concerts and rehearsals for the remainder of the 2019-2020 season.

The most important thing right now is the health and safety of our musicians, staff, students, volunteers, and community. Our Board of Directors is actively monitoring the ongoing situation, and together with Music Director Thomas Heuser and Executive Director Alekzandria Peugh, updates will be provided as needed for the foreseeable future. The CDC has suggested canceling events for the next 8 weeks, through May 15th at the earliest, which has formed the basis for our decision making.

We are shocked by the sudden turn of events: Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony, the most uplifting and meaningful work in the repertoire, has been postponed indefinitely and will not be performed live on April 25th. Our Youth Orchestras and three concerto competition winners will not be performing on April 16th. Our school Ambassador programs are shuttered until further notice. These are uncertain times and we thank you for your ongoing support.

As the Idaho Falls Symphony is a non-profit organization that relies on both ticket sales and individual contributions, we ask you to consider donating the cost of your unused tickets. Choosing to make your ticket a tax-deductible donation will help sustain our organization during this difficult time of cancellations.

Ticket holders have the following options:

    - donate your tickets to the Symphony, and receive a tax deduction for the total ticket value;

    - exchange your tickets for credit on your account to a concert held at a later date;

    - receive a full refund for the value of the ticket.
Please note that our office is not open to the public at this time. Updates from the Symphony will be provided as needed at ifsymphony.org. Please send questions and concerns to the Idaho Falls Symphony digitally via Facebook Messenger (@ifsymphony), or via email at office@ifsymphony.org. Our office voicemail is available at 208-529-1080 and will be checked on a daily basis.
