Idaho Falls Youth Symphony 2019-2020 Auditions Announced
Auditions for the 2019-2020 season will take place on May 28, 29, and 30, 2019. Applicants must fill out a form in order to be assigned a time slot. Applications are due by May 1 and may only be submitted electronically. Students will be assigned an audition time, which will be announced on May 10.
The Idaho Falls Youth Symphony was founded in 1989 by conductor Eric Wenstrom as the Eastern Idaho Youth Symphony and was later incorporated into the Idaho Falls Symphony Society. The purpose of the Youth Symphony is to provide young musicians a positive, educational, and fulfilling experience as members of a full orchestra. The Youth Symphony also seeks to enhance area school music programs by providing an experience that will challenge the students’ developing musical skills. The Youth Symphony holds an annual concerto competition for student soloists, has commissioned new works for full orchestra, and has featured noted guest artists over the years. Under the direction of Diane Soelberg, the Youth Symphony has performed challenging repertoire and grown in their musicality.
Youth Symphony rehearsals are at Idaho Falls High School on Thursday evenings 7:00-9:00 p.m. from September through December and January through April. Students in grades 7-12 are eligible to play in the Youth Symphony. All levels are encouraged to audition. There is a $65.00 annual tuition fee for new and returning members of the Youth Symphony. This fee will be due upon acceptance; there is NO COST to audition for the Idaho Falls Youth Symphony.
Students are expected to be regular members of their school orchestra, band, or percussion class. Exceptions will be made for home-school students and students whose school does not have any of the above-mentioned groups.
