IF Symphony Presents Free Concert in Freeman Park
August 30, 2018 – The Idaho Falls Symphony proudly presents its annual “Symphony in the Park” on September 8, 2018, at 5:30 pm in Freeman Park. One of the Symphony’s most popular events, audiences will enjoy many time-honored traditions, including guest performers, an award ceremony to recognize outstanding volunteers, goodies after the show, and fabulous performing by local musicians under the direction of Thomas Heuser. Two students will be joining the Symphony—one as a guest conductor and the other as a guest percussionist—thanks to generous contributions from Idaho Falls Symphony supporters.
The repertoire for the outdoor concert was chosen from a list of pieces requested by the citizens of Idaho Falls. The Symphony conducted a poll this summer and went over all of the responses to select a variety of beloved tunes and classical favorites to delight audiences of all ages. Leonard Bernstein’s Candide Overture will begin the concert as the IFS celebrates the composer’s 100th birthday; other familiar composers on the program include Rossini, Dvorak, Holst, and Sousa. Popular selections from Pixar’s Monster’s Inc. and a Star Wars Medley, as well as timeless classics such as The Sound of Music, will fill approximately one hour of music.
“I am so excited to kick off our new season with music selected by our audiences,” remarks music director Thomas Heuser. “There were great suggestions, and I think we have a concert that will appeal to the entire community.” Symphony in the Park: Audience Choice! is made possible by the generous support of the following sponsors: Fluor Idaho, Mr. Richard & Jennifer Raaz, and our baton sponsor, The Hartwell Corporation.
