The Idaho Falls Symphony is excited to be joined by Jessica Meyer, the award-winning American composer known for her dynamic and evocative musical style, as our Composer-in-Residence during November. Meyer is offering a unique opportunity for local music lovers and aspiring composers to engage with her creative process through a free public masterclass titled “Awakening Your Inner Composer.” This interactive workshop, designed for participants of all ages and skill levels, will take place on Wednesday, November 20th, from 6:00–7:30 PM at the MC Theater, located upstairs at the ARTitorium on Broadway.

Meyer’s residency will also feature the premiere of Turbulent Flames, a powerful and stirring composition composed for the Idaho Falls Symphony as part of a Co-Commission Consortium with the Auburn (WA) Symphony and other orchestras around the country. Our musicians are excited to interact with a living composer during the rehearsal process, to get her insights and feedback in real time. Turbulent Flames will be performed by the Idaho Falls Symphony during Her Song in 3 Voices at the Frontier Center for the Performing Arts on November 23, 2024 at 7:30pm.

With a distinguished career marked by accolades and recognition for her bold musical voice, Meyer brings an innovative perspective to the world of contemporary composition. Her work blends lyrical beauty with compelling energy, making her one of the most highly regarded composers of her generation. As Composer-in-Residence, Meyer will work closely with our orchestra and community to deepen the connection between artists and audiences.

The masterclass is open to everyone and aims to ignite creativity and foster a sense of musical exploration. Participants will be encouraged to engage with their own musical instincts and learn valuable techniques from Meyer’s wealth of experience.
